The Department of Mathematics, FMIPA UI is ready to collaborate with Tsinghua University, the No. 1 campus in China.

On Wednesday, January 22, 2024, the Department of Mathematics, FMIPA, University of Indonesia (UI) received a courtesy visit from the Department of Mathematics, Tsinghua University, China. The event began with an official welcome by the Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Budiawan, at the FMIPA UI Dean's Meeting Building. In his remarks, Prof. Budiawan conveyed various strategic collaboration opportunities, including the potential for student exchange programs between the University of Indonesia and Tsinghua University.
Present at this event were a number of leaders and staff of the Mathematics Department, such as the Head of the Mathematics Department, Head of the Undergraduate Mathematics Study Program, Head of the Undergraduate Actuarial Study Program, Head of the Undergraduate Statistics Study Program, and several other lecturers. The event also included a presentation from Dr. Dipo Aldila, S.Si., M.Si., as the Manager of Research and Community Service at FMIPA UI. The main event, titled “Tsinghua University Symposium,” took place in room D.108 of the Department of Mathematics. The activities included introductions of each department, presentations of Tsinghua University students’ research, titled “


On this occasion, Prof. Alhadi Bustamam, S.Si., M.Kom., Ph.D., Head of the UI Mathematics Department, explained the direction of research in the Mathematics Department which is now focused on multidisciplinary research. He also announced that the Mathematics Department will open a Doctoral Program in Mathematics starting in the 2025/2026 academic year.

The team from the Department of Mathematics of Tsinghua University who attended, namely the Math Tropic Team led by Prof. Ning Xu, expressed their enthusiasm for further collaboration. They also offered further study opportunities for students and alumni of the Department of Mathematics UI who are interested in continuing their education at Tsinghua University.
Included in this series of activities were presentations on student activities at both campuses. Both representatives from the Student Union of Tsinghua University and representatives from the student association of the mathematics department, showed each other student activities that had been carried out and had become a culture at their respective campuses.


The visit ended with a campus tour to show the facilities and learning atmosphere at the No. 1 campus in Indonesia, University of Indonesia.
Through this visit, both institutions hope to realize various forms of collaborative cooperation, including student exchanges, joint research, and other academic programs. It is hoped that this collaboration can improve the competence and competitiveness of UI Mathematics Department students in the international arena.
