Remarks by the Head of the UI Mathematics Department and the Governor of IndoMS for the West Java, Jakarta and Banten regions for the 2023-2024 period.
Late post. On Friday, January 24, 2025, the election of the Governor of the Indonesian Mathematics Society (IndoMS) for the West Java, Jakarta and Banten regions was held at the Department of Mathematics, University of Indonesia, Depok campus in a Hybrid manner. Starting the discussion activity for the election of the IndoMS governor for the West Java, Jakarta and Banten regions for the 2025-2026 period was a welcome speech delivered by the Head of the Mathematics Department, FMIPA UI, Prof. Alhadi Bustamam, S.Si., M.Kom., Ph.D., followed by a speech by the governor of IndoMS for the 2023-2024 period, Prof. Dr. Ir. Endar Hasafah Nugrahani, M.S. The activity was opened by the President of IndoMS for the 2025-2026 period, namely Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc, Ph.D., online.
This activity was also attended by the regional administrators for the 2023-2024 period and several active regional member lecturers. As the host, the Department of Mathematics also contributed to science through a seminar with the main speaker being Prof. Dr.rer. nat. Henry Murfi, S.Si., M.Kom., the 4th professor of the UI Mathematics Department who was inaugurated on January 8, 2025. The main topic presented was "The Use of AI (Artificial Intelligence) for lecturers". As a professor in the field of advanced Data Analytics, Prof. Hendri invited lecturers in general and IndoMS lecturers in particular to start being open to AI and utilizing it in learning. The enthusiasm of the seminar participants was evident when the question and answer session was opened. Several online participants gave many responses in the form of questions and conveyed their experiences in using AI in learning along with its negative and positive effects. Prof. Hendri emphasized that AI should be a tool to make things easier because AI cannot make decisions. However, its use must be accompanied by clear rules.
The submission of the accountability report of the management for the 2022-2024 period was represented by the governor of IndoMS for the West Java, Jakarta and Banten regions, namely Prof. Dr. Ir. Endar Hasafah Nugrahani, M.S. (Bogor Agricultural Institute). In his accountability report, Prof. Endar conveyed the financial conditions and activity reports that had been carried out during the 2022-2024 management period. Achievements made by the management for the West Java, Jakarta and Banten regions include holding international seminars in collaboration with universities from within and outside the country, and increasing active members.
The main agenda of the IndoMS gubernatorial election was carried out through deliberation between two candidates, namely Prof. Novriana Sumarti, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., from the Bandung Institute of Technology and Rahmi Rusin, S.Si., M.Sc.Tech., Ph.D., from the University of Indonesia. The results of the deliberation led by Prof. Edy Tri Baskoro, M.Sc., Ph.D, as the advisor to IndoMS for the West Java, Jakarta and Banten regions, decided on Prof. Novriana Sumarti, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D as governor and Dr. Rahmi, M.Sc. Tech as deputy governor of IndoMS for the West Java, Jakarta and Banten regions for the 2025-2026 period. Good luck to the new management, hopefully the mandate they have been given can be carried out as well as possible. The Department of Mathematics, University of Indonesia is ready to support future policies and activities.
