The Department of Mathematics was established in 1961, along with the Departments of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Currently, the Department of Mathematics occupies a 4-story building in the FMIPA environment of the UI Depok Campus.
Since 2017, the Department of Mathematics has offered four study programs: the Undergraduate Program in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, and the Master's Program in Mathematics.
The vision of the Department of Mathematics is "to become a leading institution in mathematics and its applications, capable of making an impact at the global level." Its mission includes:
(i) Carrying out the Tridharma (three pillars of higher education) to produce outstanding graduates from the Department of Mathematics, FMIPA UI, who can compete globally;
(ii) Developing an academic atmosphere and research culture to advance mathematics and its applications, generating innovations and solutions beneficial to national development;
(iii) Contributing and actively participating in the development of mathematics and its applications at the global level.
The Mathematics Undergraduate Study Program has obtained A accreditation from the National Accreditation Board - Higher Education (BAN-PT) and has been assessed at the ASEAN level through the ASEAN University Network - Quality Assurance (AUN-QA). In 2021, the Mathematics Undergraduate Study Program is in preparation for ASIIN international accreditation. The Mathematics Department supports the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka Program of the Ministry of Education and Culture by opening online courses or Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) which can be attended by students from within and outside the country. Currently, the Mathematics Department has 41 permanent and non-permanent lecturers, 18 of whom have Doctoral degrees and 23 of whom have Masters degrees.
